I have always been a whore to a good meal. I love dining out at a nice restaurant, trying new foods, new wines, beers, and new scotch. This will never change, because these things make me happy. BUT, the time has come to change my day to day diet so that I can have the belt room to enjoy the finer things in life. On Monday 1/10/11 I joined weight watchers plus for men. I was a little skeptical at first, but after my first 5 days I can tell you that I am a believer. I have been eating the foods I love and making the healthy changes I need to transform my body. In my first week I have already lost 11.5lb, 39 more weeks like that and I am going to exceed my goal of getting below 180lbs.
I don't think that 11.5lbs is normal, in fact I kind of think that my initial weigh in was either high or lost alot of water weight in the first week.
I have an employee that works with me that told me that Weight Watchers is not a diet, it's a lifestyle. I laughed at first when I heard that because of course Weight Watchers is a diet, right?!. Then I signed up, and her words came back to me and I realized that the only way I would ever be successful in this journey is to make this my lifestyle. Consider me corrected Joyce!
One of the things that has really made this transition easier for me is that I am eating great foods. For breakfast today I had a 2 egg omelet with less than a 1/4 cup of cheese, salsa, and a cup of coffee with low fat cream (9points). Morning snack was an apple (no points!). Lunch was a can of Campbell's Chicken with rice soup and another apple (5 points). I ran for 30 minutes this morning and finished with push-ups (3 sets of 15) and sit ups (4 sets of 25), the activity gave me 7 extra points for the day on top of my initial 47. For those familiar with the WW system that probably sounds like too many points, but the system and points values have changed for 2011. Needless to say I have a good deal of points left for the day and am slightly hungry right now. But, I am saving as many points as possible so that I can enjoy a few pieces of pizza tonight for dinner!
The decision to lose weight and improve my fitness came late last year when I looked in the mirror and really didn't like what I saw and decided I needed to change my image in that mirror. I am doing this for my own sanity, health, and well being.
Along with diet and exercise I am going to be trying my hand at a few races in the coming months. Most notably being The Warrior Dash in Ohio in June 2011. I plan on running a few 5k's 10k's and who knows maybe another half-marathon in the coming years.
I hope you enjoy the journey, I know I am.

You will be glad you joined. It is the most wonderful feeling in the world when that weight comes off and STAYS off.
